April 13, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golfer Shintaro Ban has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition, as voted on by the UNLV communications department.
Ban won the first tournament of his career this past weekend at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State. In cold and snowy conditions, the sophomore tied for first at the tournament that was shortened in advance to 36 holes because of forecasted inclement weather. He captured medalist honors on the fourth playoff hole with a birdie. He shot 1-under-par 70 on Saturday and 3-over 74 on Sunday to finish at 2-over 144 in helping No. 25 UNLV to its third tournament title of the season and second in its last three tournaments.
