LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team recorded a 4-3 victory against San Diego State on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. It was the first of two matches on the day.

The Rebels improved to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in Mountain West Conference play while the Aztecs fell to 9-13 and 4-2 in the league.

SDSU opened a 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches. The lone win for the Rebels came at the top of the lineup where Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts defeated Milen Ianakiev and Santiago Cevallos 6-4.

Moving into singles play, the hosts recorded three straight-set wins to take a 3-1 lead before the Aztecs started to rally at the fourth and fifth positions. Richard Solberg got the Rebels on the board by beating Cevallos 6-2, 6-1 at the bottom of the lineup. Alberts downed Ianakiev 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead. Alexandr Cozbinov extended the lead by posting a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hendrik Jebens at No. 2. The winning point for UNLV was scored on one where Amilon outlasted Freddy Gelbrich to win 7-6(2), 6-4.

Following the match head coach Owen Hambrook stated, "We had a rough start on doubles, and then managed to get a good start in singles and hang on to squeak out the win against a dangerous conference opponent."

Next up, the Rebels are set to play against Southern Utah to conclude their Saturday doubleheader, starting with doubles at 4 p.m. PT. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
