RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight win Sunday, 4-0 over in-state rival Nevada, Reno at the Caughlin Club.
The Rebels improved to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in Mountain West Conference play while the Wolf Pack dropped to 4-12 and 0-2. The match was part of the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. However, UNLV must wait to see if the teams play again in the league's postseason event later this month before claiming the three points in the all-encompassing competition, which UNLV currently leads 10.5-7.5.
UNLV grabbed a quick 1-0 lead by taking both completed doubles matches. Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts downed Andrew Poustie and Robert Allan 6-4 at the top position while Alexandr Cozbinov and Richard Solberg got by Ryan Andrada and Billy Bumgardner 7-5 at the bottom of the lineup to clinch it.
Moving to singles play, UNLV took a 2-0 lead when Amilon downed Andrada 6-4, 6-1 at the top position. Cozbinov extended the lead to 3 by defeating Mile Cilic 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Evaldo Neto snatched the final point for the Rebels on court five after downing Peter O' Donovan 6-2, 7-6(7-1).
Next up, the Rebels will host conference opponent Air Force on Friday. Doubles will begin at 11 a.m. PT and admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
