2016 UNLV Baseball Weekly Notes: Week 12

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels kick off an eight-game homestand beginning Tuesday that will span a total of 13 days at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. UNLV, which had hosted a pair of six-game stretches earlier this season, begins the week with a return engagement from the UC Irvine Anteaters Tuesday afternoon (2:05 pm).

The Rebels will continue their stay at home with visits from three teams they previously faced on the road. The New Mexico Lobos come to Las Vegas this weekend (May 6-8) while the Arizona State Sun Devils (May 10) and Fresno State Bulldogs (May 13-15) are scheduled to stop in next week.

The Scarlet & Gray (19-24) and UCI (25-16) squared off with one another at Anteater Ballpark last week (April 25). The Anteaters defended their home turf and came away with a 15-2 victory.

RECENT GOINGS-ON: The UNLV Rebels headed to the Bay Area last weekend for a three-game set at San Jose State after they had previously played four straight in Southern California. UNLV won two of three against SJSU with a 12-0 shutout in game one and a come-from-behind, extra-inning effort, 3-2, in Sunday's rubber game. The Spartans claimed the middle bout, 5-3, with two late runs after the Rebels had pulled even at 3-all.

The UC Irvine Anteaters, on the other hand, went 2-2 after they hosted UNLV. UCI defeated USC, 6-5, in Los Angeles before it opened a Big West showdown at over the weekend against Cal State Fullerton. The 'Eaters won the first game, 2-0, but dropped the second and third by 6-4 and 7-2 scores, respectively.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels will host the New Mexico Lobos at Earl E. Wilson Stadium this weekend. The three-game series begins Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm. Saturday's and Sunday's games are set for the afternoon, and they're to begin at 2:05 pm and 12:05 pm, respectively.
