Howard Honored With All-Tourney Team Selection

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball's Cody Howard earned one of 11 spots on the 2016 Mountain West Championship's All-Tournament Team following his play in two games at Santa Ana Star Field this week. Howard joined a squad comprised of four members each from New Mexico and Nevada, Reno as well as one apiece from Air Force and San Diego State.

Howard tallied a .750 batting average with six hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the two games he played for the Scarlet & Gray. The Coronado High School alum opened with a 2-for-3 performance against Air Force on May 25. One day later, he went 4-for-5 at the plate against San Diego State. Additionally, he tallied one RBI and one run in both outings.

The second-seeded New Mexico Lobos claimed the MW Championship with a decisive, run-rule victory over the UNR Wolf Pack, the tournament's third seed, in the title game Saturday. With their 14-4, seven-inning win, the host Lobos, who went 3-0 this week, claimed the Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

UNM's Colton Thomson and Luis Gonzalez were voted Co-Most Valuable Players while their teammates Chris DeVito and Tyler Stevens earned all-tourney roster spots. The rest of the postseason team was made up of UNR's Justin Bridgman, T.J. Friedl, Jordan Pierce and Ty Pennington; Air Force's Tyler Jones and San Diego State's Justin Wylie.
