EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - Rebel junior Kaysee Pilgrim finished 11th overall in the high jump on the fourth and final day of the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Pilgrim's best jump measured 5-10 (1.78m), which placed her in a four-way tie in 11th.
"I am extremely proud of these young women (Ayana Gales and Pilgrim) and how they competed," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We fell short of our goals here, but we are excited that both of these student-athletes will return to lead a very young and talented team next season."
The Phoenix native was named second-team All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) All-America team for the 2016 outdoor track & field season. Pilgrim qualified for the national meet after jumping 5-10.75 (1.80m) at the West Preliminary in Lawrence, Kan., two weeks ago. Earlier this season, she became the program's record holder with a jump of 6-0.75 (1.85m) at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Assistant Coach Enoch Borozinski, who helped with the jumps and combined events, will conclude his coaching career after this competition and will go into teaching.
"Coach B. has been a great asset to our program and we will miss him dearly," Wade said. "He has always had athletes compete at a high level and has helped this program grown into what it has become. We are very proud to have had him be a part of our Rebel Family."
Over the last seven years, Borozinski has mentored a number of Rebels, including 2012 NCAA qualifier and Olympian Amanda Bingson, who set the program record in the hammer throw, as well as NCAA qualifier Krystal Wharton in the long jump. This season, Borozinski saw Pilgrim break the program's all-time high jump record in both the indoor and outdoor season as well as seeing Gales placing her name fifth overall in the long jump during the outdoor season.
Borozinski is no stranger to the Silver State, as he is a 1995 graduate of Nevada, Reno, where he was the 1994 NCAA Division I national champion in the decathlon. He served as a graduate assistant coach at UNR from 1995-97 and as a volunteer assistant at UNLV from 1999-2002. He also worked as an assistant coach at Coronado High School directing the school's hurdlers and pole vaulters.
A 2004 inductee into UNR's Hall of Fame, Borozinski was the 1994 Big West Conference Male Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
