Oda Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golfer John Oda has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Oda, a Honolulu, Hawaii native, earned medalist honors at UNLV's first tournament of the year to capture his third career individual victory. The junior turned in a three-round total of10-under 206 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., after carding a final-round 3-under 69 (seven birdies, four bogeys). Oda's win also helped the Rebels finish in a tie for first with UTEP as the team totaled a 1-under 863 to earn a share of the title.

Next up for UNLV is the Olympic Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, taking place Sept. 16-18 in Olympic Fields, Ill.
