SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team finished second overall at San Diego State's Aztec Invitational Friday morning. The Scarlet & Gray accumulated 32 points and had four top-10 finishers in the 5K race that was contested at Mission Bay Tecolote Shores North Park Friday.
The Rebels were led by Spencer Moore who finished third with a time of 18:48.7. Angela Ziff crossed the line in fifth with a time of 19:25.5. Sara Williams (19:34.3), Caitlin Amburgey (19:37.1) and Kennedy Allen (19:34.3) crossed the line one after another in eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively. Nicole Snow took 16th (20:13.9) while Lindy Eskin rounded out the Rebel contingent in 18th (20:37.2).
The host Aztecs won the race behind a total of 24 points. In all, there were seven collegiate squads that competed in the 5K race.
"Today was an improvement with our No. 5 runner getting closer to our 1-4 positions," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "The course was soft and thick grass, which makes for a slow and tough course. We were leading the majority of the race and at the last kilometer we lost a pivotal position. Every week we have seen progress, so I'll be content with that for now. We have three weeks before our next race in Santa Clara, and this will give us time to heal and get some quality training in."
The Rebels make their third straight trip to the Golden State; however, this one will be to the Bay Area. UNLV will run in Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational on October 15th.
