George Kyte Classic Results

FLAGSTAFF, Arizona - The UNLV cross country team finished fifth overall at Northern Arizona's George Kyte Classic Saturday afternoon. The Rebels amassed 121 points in the 2.6-mile race contested at Buffalo Park.

Arizona State (29 points) won the meet while NAU (45), Arizona (72) and Grand Canyon (79) rounded out second through fourth, respectively.

UNLV's top finisher was Spencer Moore, who finished 19th in a time of 16:58.6. Angela Ziff and Sara Williams crossed the line one after the other, as the former took 24th (17:06.4) while the latter was 25th (17:12.2). Lindy Eskin (35th/17:31.5), Nicole Snow (38th/17:38.2), Kennedy Allen (45th/17:51.1), Caitlin Amburgey (62nd/18:50.3) and Mandy Chitwood (66th/19:17.0) also competed for the Rebels.

"Today's race was good experience for the team," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "We have a very young team, with some still at home, and many have never raced at 7000 feet. They executed the first part of the race the way I wanted and they fought hard to finish the race. It's not the best conditions for us, but it's a great challenge for us. The focus isn't how we start the season, but how we finish. I am looking forward to a strong finish."

The Scarlet & Gray returns to action in two weeks (September 17) at the UC Riverside Invitational (6K) in Riverside, Calif.
