Mooring Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Men's Basketball junior Jovan Mooring has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Mooring, at native of Chicago, Ill., scored a career-high 30 points in Saturday's double overtime win at home over Air Force. The junior, in his first season with the Rebels after transferring from South Suburban College in Illinois, went 7-of-14 from beyond the arc, including a buzzer-beating game-tying three pointer to force the game to overtime. With the final seconds winding down in the first overtime period, Mooring hit another three to give the Rebels the lead before Air Force tied it with its own buzzer-beater to send it to a second overtime. Mooring, whose recent performance has elevated him into the starting rotation, capped his career day by hitting five free throw attempts in the final minute of the second extra period to seal the victory for UNLV.

The Runnin' Rebels are back in action tonight on the road at Wyoming. Tip is set for 6 p.m. PT.
