LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball freshman Brandon McCoy has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
McCoy, a freshman from Chicago, dominated UNLV's season-opening 108-66 win over Florida A&M Saturday night with game highs of 25 points and 18 rebounds in his UNLV debut. The forward's 18 boards were the most by a
Runnin' Rebel in a game since since Patrick McCaw had 18 during the 2015-16 season. McCoy went 11-of-19 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line in just 23 minutes of action against the Rattlers. The seven-footer added three assists and two blocked shots, while half of his rebounds came on the offensive end.
The Runnin' Rebels are back in action tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center, hosting
Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m.
