Nov. 22, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football redshirt freshman Armani Rogers has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department. Rogers, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., returned to the starting lineup Friday at New Mexico to lead the Rebels to a come-from-behind 38-35 win over the Lobos. The quarterback accounted for 404 total yards of offense, setting career highs with 211 yards through the air and 193 yards on the ground. The redshirt freshman ran for an 83-yard score in the second quarter, the seventh-longest rush in school history, while his 193 rushing yards were the most by a UNLV quarterback all-time. With 1:12 remaining in the game and UNLV trailing by five, Rogers led a 77-yard drive that included a 50-yard pass to
Darren Woods Jr. and ended with a 14-yard touchdown to
Kendal Keys with 25 seconds remaining in what proved to be the game-winner. For his performance, Rogers earned his first career Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week award.
The Rebels head to Reno Saturday for the annual rivalry game against UNR with the Fremont Cannon on the line. Kickoff against the Wolf Pack is set for 12 p.m. PT.
