McCoy Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball freshman Brandon McCoy has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This is the third time in in the last month the standout has earned the honor.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

McCoy, from Chicago, Illinois, led the Runnin' Rebels to a 2-0 record last week with victories over Oral Roberts (92-66) and Illinois (89-82) at MGM Grand Garden Arena. For the week, he averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game, while shooting 65.2 percent (15 of 23) from the field. In UNLV's win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday, McCoy scored 17 points with six rebounds and four blocked shots. Against the Big Ten's Fighting Illini on Saturday, the freshman recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He currently ranks fifth in the nation in double-doubles.

For his performance, McCoy was named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks.

The Runnin' Rebels are back in action Saturday for a 7p.m. tilt at Pacific in Stockton, California.
