Gonzalez Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Basketball junior Dakota Gonzalez has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. Gonzalez's twin sister and teammate Dylan earned the honor two weeks ago.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Gonzalez, a Pocatello, Idaho native, posted a pair of career-best scoring performances while leading the the Lady Rebels to a 2-0 week with wins over in-state rival Nevada, Reno and San Jose State. In the two victories, she averaged 27 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 50% (22-of-44) from the floor and 50% (4-of-8) from three-point range. Against San Jose State, the junior set a career-high with 31 points on 12-of-23 shooting. She added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and the fourth of her career. Her performance earned her a number of accolades as she was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, College Sports Madness Mountain West Player of the Week and the High Mid-Major Player of the Week.

The Lady Rebels have a bye tonight and will return to action Saturday against San Diego State in Cox Pavilion at 4 p.m.
