Amilon Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

Feb. 8, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Men's Tennis senior Jakob Amilon has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This is the second time this academic year Amilon has earned the honor.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

The Stockholm, Sweden, native went a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles matches over the weekend, helping UNLV to a 4-0 mark in dual matches. Playing at the No. 1 position in both singles and double, he swept New Mexico State's top player, Chris Goncalves, 6-3, 6-4. In the doubles competition, Amilon and Evaldo Neto won the No. 1 doubles matches against New Mexico State, Weber State, Youngstown State and then UC Riverside to help keep the Rebels undefeated.

The Rebels will put their undefeated dual mark on the line this weekend in the Bay Area as they face Stanford on Friday, Feb. 10 and Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 12.
