Amilon Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Men's Tennis senior Jakob Amilon has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This is Amilon's third Outstanding Rebel of the Week honor during the 2016-17 academic year as he previously earned the award on Oct. 26 and Feb. 8.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

The Stockholm, Sweden, native led the Rebels to a 2-0 weekend in conference play with victories over Nevada, Reno (4-1) and Fresno State (4-1) on April 7 & 9, respectively. Playing at the No. 1 position all weekend, Amilon went a combined 4-0 in the two dual match victories.The senior downed Julien Evrard of Nevada, Reno, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 on Friday then dispatched reigning Mountain West Player of the Week Xander Veys of Fresno State, 7-6 (6), 6-4in his last home match of his UNLV career on Senior Day Sunday. Amilon also teamed up with partner Evaldo Neto to help the Rebels win the doubles point in the weekend matches as the duo topped the No. 1 pair from both Nevada, Reno and Fresno State 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. For his performance he was named the MW Men's Tennis Player of the week for league-leading third time this season and fifth time in his career.

UNLV will head out on the road this weekend as they play conference dual matches at New Mexico and Air Force on Friday, April 14 & Sunday, April 16, respectively.
