DAY TWO RESULTS // CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL// FINAL ROUND PAIRINGS // LIVE SCORING // MOUNTAIN WEST WOMEN'S GOLF STATS
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 38 UNLV Women's Golf used a strong back nine -- including a hole-in-one by sophomore Elizabeth Prior - to grab the lead after two rounds at the 2017 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Entering Tuesday's second round in a three-way tie for first place with San Diego State and New Mexico, the defending champions shot a 2-over 290 to move to 1-over (577) on the tournament, while the Aztecs came in one shot behind in second place at 2-over and New Mexico dropped to 15-over after 36 holes to fall into a tie for fourth. Unless third-place SJSU or the Lobos make an unprecedented move Wednesday, the final round looks like it's going to be a two-team battle between UNLV and SDSU for the crown.
The day started in the Aztecs favor as they hit several birdies on the opening nine to go as low as 5-under with a five shot lead over the field at one point, but the Rebels didn't allow it to stay that way for long. The Scarlet & Gray really turned it on at holes 10-15 as the team connected on six birdies during that stretch. Prior put an exclamation point on the comeback with a hole-in-one eagle on the par 3 17th hole - the first Rebel to do so since former Rebel All American and current LPGA tour member Dana Finkelstein holed one during the first round of the 2014 NCAA Championship.
Heading into the final round, the Rebels have three players in the top five, led by Harley Dubsky. The senior started Tuesday's round in second place after a 3-under 69 on Monday and only dropped one shot in the second round, moving to fourth at 2-under overall. Thanks to the ace on 17, Prior finished the day 2-under to move to 1-under overall and into a tie for fifth with defending Mountain West Individual Champion Alexandra Kaui, who shot a 1-under Tuesday after an even first round. Junior Mackenzie Raim sits in a tie for 14th at 5-over while sophomore Alyssa Getty rounds things out one shot behind Raim at 6-over and in a tie for 18th.
After UNLV and SDSU, San Jose State jumped up to third at 11-over (587), followed by Fresno State and New Mexico in a tie for fourth at 15-over (591), Nevada, Reno in sixth at 33-over (609), Wyoming in seventh at 34-over (610), Colorado State in eighth at 40-over (616) and Boise State in ninth at 55-over (631).
In the individual standings, New Mexico's Manon Molle extended her day one lead with a 69 in round two to move to 7-under and holding a three-shot lead. SJSU's My Leander jumped from third to a tie for second at 4-under after a second-straight round of 70, matching the two-round score of SDSU's Fernanda Escauriza. Dubsky, Prior and Kaui round out the top six -- all of whom are under par for the tournament going into the final round.
Wednesday's final round will get underway at 7 a.m. PT with UNLV not teeing off until 8:30 a.m. PT. Full Rebel tee times are as follows: Alyssa Getty 8:30 a.m.; Mackenzie Raim 8:39 a.m.; Elizabeth Prior 8:48 a.m.; Alexandra Kaui 8:57 a.m.; Harley Dubsky 9:06 a.m.
