Rebels Set to Tee Off in Final Regular Season Tournament

April 6, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After a busy March, UNLV Women's Golf had a couple weeks off to prepare for its last regular season tournament of the 2016-17 campaign as the team heads to Tempe, Ariz., for Arizona's State's PING/ASU Tournament, April 7-9, at ASU's Karsten Golf Course. Fourteen teams will compete at the three-day competition, including three in Golfstat's top-25 rankings, with one round played per day.

The Rebels will be back in a regular tournament setting after competing in San Diego State's March Mayhem match play tournament March 20 & 21 in San Diego - their only match play competition of the year and the first one since playing in the same tournament in the spring of 2015. Seeded eighth, UNLV was paired with ninth-seed Old Dominion in the opening round match. The two teams played to a 2.5 tie with Old Dominion moving on courtesy of the tiebreaker. In the next match, the Rebels downed 16th-seed Yale 3-2, before dropping their third round match 4-1 to California. Anticipated rain for the final day resulted in the third and fourth rounds behind played on day two, with the Rebels falling to Washington State 3-1 to finish in 12th overall.

The Scarlet & Gray will hope to fine tune their game in Tempe as it is the last time they will compete before the Mountain West Championships. The 54-hole tournament will take place on a par-72 6,223 yard course, with Friday's and Saturday's first and second rounds beginning at 8 a.m. PT and Sunday's final round set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. PT.
