HENDERSON, NV (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team moved into position to earn valuable points for their side in the Governor's Series by downing Nevada, Reno 4-1 on Friday. The match was moved to the state-of-the-art LIFETIME Athletic club because of windy conditions in the Las Vegas Valley.

The Rebels improved to 13-7 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West Conference play while the Wolf Pack dropped to 6-9 and 1-2 in conference play. The match was part of the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. However, UNLV must wait to see if the teams play again in the league's postseason event later this month before claiming the three points in the all-encompassing competition, which Reno currently leads 12-9.

UNLV grabbed a 1-0 lead by taking two out of three doubles matches. Jakob Amilon and Evaldo Neto defeated Julien Evrard and Augustin Delahodde 6-4 at the top position while Courtney Lock and Alexandr Cozbinov beat Peter O'Donovan and Robert Margitfalvi 6-3 at the bottom of the lineup to clinch it.

Moving to singles play, UNLV took a 2-1 lead when Cozbinov defeated Nesterenko 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Alberts extended the lead to 3-1 by beating Cilic 6-4, 6-4 on court four. Amilon snatched the final point for the Rebels at the top position getting by Evrard 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Next up, the Rebels will hold Senior Day on Sunday when they host Fresno State. Amilon and Gage-Brown will be honored before the match, which begins at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
