Ban Named Outstanding Rebel of the Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Men's Golf junior Shintaro Ban has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This is the second time this spring Ban has earned the honor.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Ban, from San Jose, Calif., led the No. 17 Rebels to their first NCAA Regional title in 12 years last week at the Purdue Regional in West Lafayette, Ind.The junior was the team's top performer, tying for third place at 2-under to help UNLV finish at 8-over 372 for the tournament - three shots better than second-place Auburn. With their second-consecutive team tournament victory, the Rebels advanced to the national finals for the second time in the last three years.

The NCAA Men's Golf National Championships will take place at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., May 26-31.

This is the last Outstanding Rebel of the Week award for the 2016-17 academic year.
