LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golfer Shintaro Ban has been named honorable mention All-America as the 2017 PING Division I All-America Teams were announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Thursday.
Earlier this month, John Oda was named to first team. He was UNLV's first First Team All-America since Ryan Moore in 2005.
This year marks the first time since 2012 that UNLV has two representatives earning All-America honors in the same year and is just the second time in 11 seasons. The Rebels have had at least one player earn All-America recognition in 26 of the last 29 years.
Oda and Ban, both rising seniors, led the No. 12 Rebels to an Elite Eight finish at the NCAA Championship last month. The team also won the Mountain West and NCAA Regional titles this season.
Ban had a scoring average of 71.26 strokes per round (15 tournaments played). His best finish was a tie for second, while he had a total of five top-five individual performances and two more in the top 10. He shot par or better in 29 of 43 rounds and was in the 60s 12 times.
Oda led the Rebels in scoring average with 70.43 strokes per round. He won two individual titles and recorded 12 top-10 finishes, including in each of his last nine events. He shot par or better in 31 of 46 total rounds played and was in the 60s 19 times.
