UNLV Cross Country finished 24th overall at the Bronco Invitational.
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV cross country team finished 24th overall at Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational Saturday. The Rebels posted a total team time of 1:58:54.00 and scored 679 points in the 6K held at Baylands Park.
Elisa Rovere was the top finisher for the Scarlet & Gray, as she was 79th in a personal-best time of 21:51.0. Rovere was followed across the finish line by teammates Emma Wahlenmaier (171st/23:04.5), Kennedy Allen (187th/23:34.4), Grace Moore (202nd/24:17.8 PB) and Nicole Snow (209th/26:06.3).
Â
RACE RESULTS: Oregon State won the team title with 48 points and a combined time of 1:42:32.20, as all five of its scoring runners finished 18th or better, including three in the top eight. UTEP and Rice both scored 172 points, with the former running a team time of 1:44:48.6 to the latter's 1:45:30.60. UTEP's Winny Koech and Linda Cheruiyot finished 1-2 with times of 20:00.9 and 20:08.5, while OSU's Juliana Mount (20:12.4) was third.
Â
QUOTABLE: "We rested a few key runners, and I had to pull one mid-race due to some back pain that I would rather be smart towards now in order to push hard during championship season," said cross country coach Angelina Ramos. "Elisa Rovere's race impressed; she rolled her ankle at the 1.5 mile mark and still ran a personal best and broke the 22:00 mark for the first time ever despite a tough training week. Also impressive was freshman Grace Moore's ability to run a personal record in the 5K within her first 6K race. Those two really shone today."
Â
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will take next weekend off before it heads to San Diego for the Mountain West Championships on Oct. 26, in San Diego.
