UNLV cross country finishes 32nd at NCAA West Regional Friday.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV cross country team finished 32nd overall with a team score of 978 and a time of 1:56:46 at the NCAA West Regional Friday held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Â
The Rebels had three runners finish the 6K within 18 seconds of each other, as Elisa Rovere was the first of the trio to cross the finish line in a time of 22:21.7 (155th), while Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete and Emma Wahlenmaier followed in 22:35.5 – a personal best – (180th) and 22:49.6 (195th), respectively. Kennedy Allen was the fourth Rebel to finish, running 23:53.9 (229th). Grace Moore closed out the Scarlet & Gray's scorers with a time of 25:06.0 (247th).
Â
QUOTABLE: "They brought great attitude to the line and executed the plan to climb competitors as directed, and are getting closer to how we need to race as a team little by little, and I'm proud of them for that," said cross country coach Angelina Ramos. "Avi stepped up today for her team and definitely gets a most improved internal team award. She was motivated by wanting to help her teammate Emma to get a personal best time - fueled by this noble desire, she ran her way to her own personal record. Last year, she ran 27:14 for 6K, last race 24 minutes, and this meet 22:35, passing competitors the entire way. Sometimes when you focus on showing up for your team and being the best teammate you can for them, you end up finding the highest version of yourself in the process, and Avi did that today. We still have growth goals as a team, but first and foremost is to depart for Washington next year with a full squad that is healthy and ready to perform at their best. We have zero seniors on this squad and return everyone who raced today, which means the lessons learned today serve the future of the program well."Â
Â
TEAM RESULTS: The Oregon Ducks and Boise State Broncos finished first and second, respectively, and automatically advance to next week's NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. The Ducks, who had the second- and third-fastest runners and four in the top 13, registered 44 points and a total team time of 1:38:30, while the Broncos were closely behind with 49 points and a time of 1:38:46 aided by all five of their runners coming in 16th or better. Stanford (95 points/1:40:30) took third after two of its own claimed fourth and fifth place.
Â
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS: Boise State's Allie Ostrander won the race with a time of 19:09.0, with Oregon's Jessica Hull and Susan Ejore in second (19:22.5) and third (19:24.6), respectively.
