Feb. 28, 2018 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track and field freshman Avi'Tal Perteete has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
The Oakland, California, native helped UNLV secure 22 points en route to the team's 99 points and the program's first Mountain West Indoor Championship. Individually, Perteete finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.01, which is currently the 14th-fastest time in the NCAA (third-fastest freshman) and best all-time at UNLV. The mark is also the second best in MW Indoor Championship history and is third best all-time in the Mountain West. The freshman was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that took first with a time of 3:38.65 - the third-best time in UNLV and MW Indoor Championship history, while it is fourth best all-time in the Mountain West. Perteete also ran the first leg of the distance medley relay, helping UNLV to a fifth-place finish with a time of 11:31.59.
Perteete will be competing in the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, March 9 & 10.
