Solberg Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

April 11, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's tennis junior Richard Solberg has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Solberg, originally from Stockholm, Sweden, went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles competition last weekend to help UNLV to a pair of Mountain West victories. On Friday against Air Force, the match was tied at three when Solberg split sets with Paul Hendrix on court four. The outcome of the match came down to whomever won the final set and with all eyes on their court, Solberg emerged with a 6-3 win to secure the Rebel victory. On Sunday against New Mexico, with each team having taken one doubles match, he teamed with Clatyon Alenik to win on court three to give UNLV the team point. In his singles match against the Lobos, Solberg defeated Stepan Holis in straight sets to give UNLV a 3-0 lead in the eventual team win.

Solberg and the Rebels will close out the regular season on the road this weekend with a match at Fresno State on Thursday, April 12, followed by their annual Governor's Series match against the Wolf Pack on Sunday, April 15 in Reno.
