April 16, 2018 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball's Nick Rodriguez was named the Mountain West's Player of the Week after he batted .471 with two extra-base hits and added six runs and five RBI, as the Rebels went 3-1 for the week ending April 15. This is the first career accolade for Rodriguez, and the fifth of the season for the Rebels.
The senior from San Fernando, California (John F. Kennedy High School), registered at least two hits in three games. In all, he went 8-for-17 at the plate with one home run and one triple that contributed to a .526 slugging percentage. With the addition of two walks to his hit total, he notched a .526 on-base percentage. Defensively, he recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage off 12 chances with five putouts and seven assists.
Rodriguez began the week with two hits, three RBI and three runs in a 10-6 win over Arizona State. He scored the would-be, game-winning run in the second inning off a wild pitch.
In the conference series against Air Force, he hit .500 with six hits, three runs and two RBI. In game one, he notched a game-tying RBI single in the fifth that also produced the game-winning run off an error on the play. In game two, he produced UNLV's lone run of the game with a solo home run in the sixth. In game three, he helped secure the series win with three hits and a pair of runs.
Rodriguez joins teammates Nick Ames, Kyle Isbel, Max Smith and Bryson Stott as recipients of this season's MW Player of the Week award.
