LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second consecutive year the UNLV men’s tennis team will open play at the Mountain West Championship vs. in-state rival UNR, this time around coming on Thursday at noon.
The 2018 men’s event is being hosted by San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center April 26-28. Quarterfinal action runs throughout Thursday, with the semifinals on Friday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The championship tilt on Saturday is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
All seven matches of the Championship will be broadcast live and for free on the Mountain West Network.
The Rebels, 13-9 overall and 3-4 in the MW. The Rebels finished with the same league record as UNR and San Diego State, but garnered the No. 4 seed by virtue of owning the highest ITA national ranking among the three teams.
UNLV and UNR (15-7/3-4) met earlier this month up north on indoor courts and the Wolf Pack won that regular-season matchup 4-1. The rematch will decide not only who moves on in the tournament but also whether UNR captures all three points in the Governor’s Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold or each side gets 1.5 points in the annual all-sport competition between the two institutions. The Rebels won last year’s postseason matchup 4-0 in Boise, Idaho.
