SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Baseball had six of its own earn Mountain West All-Conference following a vote of the league's seven head coaches. The Rebels' Kyle Isbel and Bryson Stott were tabbed to the All-MW First Team, while teammates Nick Ames, Bryan Menendez, Nick Rodriguez and Alan Strong were Second Team honorees.
Isbel and Stott have been recognized in the past as the MW's Freshman of the Year in 2016 and 2017, while the former was also member of the 2016 All-MW Second Team, respectively; however, this is the first time that Ames, Menendez, Rodriguez and Strong have garnered postseason accolades.
Isbel hit .336 in conference play with 41 hits, 15 of which went for extra bases with eight doubles, six home runs and one triple. Those hits as well as 15 walks helped him register a .566 slugging percentage and .415 on-base percentage. He knocked in 25 RBI and scored 25 runs, and stole three bases. Defensively, he was perfect in the field with no errors in 99 opportunities (93 putouts and six assists).
Stott hit .339 in 30 league games with 43 hits, 18 of which went for extra bases 17 doubles and one triple. His 20 walks and hit total helped him to .488 slugging and .423 slugging percentages. He scored 26 runs and produced 18 RBI. More impressively, he was 10-for-10 in the stolen base department.
Ames hit 10 home runs against MW pitching and had a total of 15 extra-base hits with five doubles mixed into his haul of 33 hits, which resulted in a .613 slugging percentage and aided in a .394 on-base percentage with 19 walks. Defensively, he had a .992 fielding percentage with only two errors in 251 chances (233 putouts and 16 assists).
Menendez made 14 relief appearances for the Rebels and notched seven saves. He threw a total of 21.0 innings and struck out 18 against six runs, 15 hits and three walks. He held opposing batters to a .203 average.
Rodriguez led the offense in average (.354), at-bats (130), runs (32), hits (46), total bases (83) and slugging percentage (.638). He had 17 extra-base hits with nine homers, six doubles and two triples, which led to 26 RBI. Defensively, he had a .986 fielding percentage.
Strong started game one of every MW series this season and threw 62.2 innings in 10 contests, one of which was a complete-game effort. He concluded league play with a 4-3 record with 52 strikeouts against 32 earned runs (35 total) off of 81 hits and 10 walks.
