Wilson-Perteete Finishes Third In 800m Final

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field's Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete finished third overall in the 800m final Saturday at the US Junior Outdoor Championships, which are being held at Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Complex.

Perteete ran a time of 2:04.67 in a race that had been delayed due to inclement weather. Due to her finish, the Oakland, California, native is an alternate to run the 800m for Team USATF at the IAAF U20 World Championships in Finland next month.

Texas A&M's Samantha Watson clocked a time of 2:01.46 to win the event, while Caitlin Collier (unattached) was second in 2:01.66.

QUOTABLE: "Avi had a great season and made a statement that she is one of the best in the NCAA," said Rebel assistant coach Jebreh Harris. "As of now, Avi is the first alternate for the U20 world team. I'm truly proud of her growth as a person and athlete. Avi is just getting started with her career and I'm proud to be her coach."

REBEL NOTES:
- Wilson-Perteete was a two-time USTFCCCA Second Team All-American in the 800m (indoor and outdoor) this year.
- Wilson-Perteete helped the 4x400m relay to USTFCCCA All-American Honorable Mention status at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
- Wilson-Perteete earned Mountain West All-Conference Team status for the 800m as well as for her efforts on UNLV's 4x400m relay team during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
- Wilson-Perteete owns the second-fastest time clocked by a collegian during NCAA competition this year with a 2:01.14 notched at the NCAA West Preliminary. The time is the best by a Mountain West student-athlete in conference history, and it ranks second in UNLV's all-time performance list. It is also the ninth best posted by a USA Jr.
