Rebels Add One More For 2019 Roster

July 3, 2018

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball program has received a signed national letter of intent from Cameron Jabara to enroll at the University and suit up for the Rebels during the 2019 season, head coach Stan Stolte announced Tuesday.

With the addition of Jabara, a right-handed pitcher from Orange Coast College (Mesa, California), the 2017-18 signing class consists of eight pitchers, three outfielders, two infielders and one catcher. In April, the Rebels signed pitchers Bradley Spooner and Tallon Thomason from the junior college ranks. In the fall, Troy Balko, James Gamble, Jacob Godman, Chase Hanson, Ryan McDonald, Jake McLean, Isaiah Montoya, Duke Puhukoa, Austin Pfeifer, Ty Pohlmann and Edarian Williams signed with the Scarlet & Gray.

"We are so pleased to add a quality arm and student, like Cameron, this late in the recruiting cycle," said Stolte. "We anticipate Cameron competing for a weekend job as we continue to get our pitching staff up to the level it needs to be to compete for championships."

Jabara helped OCC capture back-to-back Orange Empire Conference titles with 16-5 and 15-6 league records in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Overall, the Pirates went 70-27 in his two years with consecutive postseason runs, which included a third-place finish at the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association Baseball State Championships.

He claimed 2018 OEC First Team honors after he went 3-0 in league play with 33 strikeouts and a 3.63 ERA in 39.2 innings of work. Jabara finished his sophomore campaign with a perfect 8-0 record on the mound with 63 strikeouts in 13 starts and 72.2 innings. Three of his victories came during postseason play, one of which -- a triumph in the Southern California Sectionals -- clinched a berth in the state tournament.

At OCC, Jabara made a total of 25 appearances with 21 starts, and posted a 14-1 record with one save and 94 strikeouts in 120.0 innings. He struck out nine batters -- a career best -- against Ventura College this past season (March 31) and notched at least four whiffs in 14 starts. He limited the opposition to two or fewer runs in 12 starts.

The Newport Beach native graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 2016. He lettered two years -- sophomore and junior seasons -- in baseball with the Sailors. During his senior season, he pitched for the California Baseball Academy in Los Angeles.
