LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball rising sophomores
Jack-Thomas Wold and
Conner Woods concluded their summer play on high notes this past weekend with one earning postseason recognition and the other claiming a team title at the NBC World Series.
Wold was tabbed to the Northwoods League's Postseason All-Star Team after hitting .267 in 68 games for the Wisconsin Rapids (Wisconsin) Rafters (34-37). The 2017 graduate of Basic Academy of International Studies led the team in at-bats (258), hits (69), RBI (51) and sacrifice flies (nine), while tying for the top spot in doubles (16). He also posted 35 runs and smashed eight home runs. He participated in the Northwoods' All-Star Game and the Major League Dreams Showcase.
Woods helped his Santa Barbara Foresters (California Collegiate League) to their record-setting seventh National Baseball Congress World Series championship in Wichita, Kansas, behind a 5-1 tournament mark. The right-hander from Tempe, Arizona, entered the title tilt against the NJCAA National Team in the fourth with one out and runners in scoring position. He was able to get a strikeout and a fly out to preserve his squad's two-run lead, 4-2. Ultimately, the Foresters allowed three runs in the top of the ninth to even the score at 5-all before they won 6-5 with assistance from a bases-loaded walk.
For the summer, Woods made 11 appearances and notched a 1-0 record with one hold in 19.1 innings of work. He struck out 26 batters and only allowed six earned runs off of 13 hits and 10 walks for a 2.79 ERA.
