LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golf will return to campus when classes begin in two weeks, but the Rebels have already been gearing up for the new season with several competing in tournaments over the summer.
The three-time defending Mountain West Champions will return all but one member of their 2018 championship squad, led by reigning conference player of the year
Polly Mack, who will only be a sophomore. The team will also welcome a new face in incoming freshman and Las Vegas native
Veronica Joels, who signed with the Rebels last November and arrives at UNLV after a successful and productive prep career.
With the 2017-18 team capturing three titles in three Las Vegas tournaments a year ago, it's no surprise head coach
Amy Bush-Herzer will again have her team competing locally in another three events this upcoming season. Two will be hosted by the Scarlet and Gray - the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in the fall and the second year of the Rebel Beach Invitational in the spring, where Long Beach State serves as co-host. The third Las Vegas-based tournament - the Battle at Boulder Creek - will serve as UNLV's spring opener.
For the fourth consecutive year, UNLV will begin its 2018-19 season at New Mexico's Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, Sept. 10-11, then head to Idaho for the Coeur D'Alene Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga, Sept. 24-25.
The Rebels will then return home to try to defend their title at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club, October 21-23, before finishing out the fall slate at the 2018 Jim West Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, October 28 & 29.
The spring portion of the schedule will open with back-to-back Las Vegas tournaments, with the Battle at Boulder Creek set for Feb. 11-12 and the Rebel Beach Invitational taking place six days later, Feb. 18-19, at Spanish Trail Golf Club. UNLV will conclude the month of February with a trip to Long Beach to compete in LBSU's Golf Rush Invitational Feb. 25-26.
March will feature two events the Rebels have played in the previous two seasons - the Arizona Wildcat Invite, March 11-12, and the Mountain View Invitational, March 22-24. Both tournaments will take place in Tucson, Arizona.
The Scarlet and Gray will conclude the regular season with a trip to Napa, California, for the Silverado Showdown, April 7-9. The tournament is co-hosted by the Pac-12's Oregon and Colorado.
UNLV will be eyeing its fourth straight league title and 17th consecutive trip to NCAA Regionals at the 2019 Mountain West Championship, which is set for April 16-18 in Rancho Mirage, California.
