LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Baseball's
Bryson Stott was named one of Major League Baseball's 10 best collegiate players in the 2019 Draft class in a MLB.com article.
"It's nice to see Bryson get recognized, because he does work hard and is getting closer every day to doing everything the right way," said UNLV head coach
Stan Stolte. "Hopefully, in the spring, he is in the mix to be drafted high. He deserves it."
Stott has posted a .333 batting average with 155 hits in 466 at-bats and 113 career starts. The rising junior has compiled an impressive .474 slugging percentage, with 51 extra-base hits with 41 doubles, five triples and five home runs, and has registered a .405 on-base percentage with the combination of his hit haul and 54 walks.
More impressively, Stott has posted these figures while hitting leadoff or second in the batting order for the Scarlet & Gray. He has tallied 50 multiple-hit and 14 multiple-RBI games.
In 2018 alone, the shortstop led the nation in doubles (30) and was third overall in doubles per game (0.51), while placing seventh in hits (92), 19th in hits per game (1.56), 26th in runs (61) and 28th in total bases (140). He started all 59 games and reached base safely in 53 of those with help from at least one hit in 48 of those.
This summer the Desert Oasis High School product split time between the Cape Cod League's Wareham (Massachusetts) Gatemen and USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team. Stott played 12 games for the Gatemen and hit .275 with 11 hits and added nine runs and three RBI. For the Red, White & Blue, he hit .262 with 11 hits in 13 contests. He led the CNT in RBI (seven) and multiple-RBI games (three) against the likes of Chinese Taipei, Japan and Cuba.
Stott and Southern Miss's Matt Wallner (outfield) are the lone selections that do not play for schools that are members of Power 5 conferences. Also on the list are Oregon State's Adley Rutschman (catcher), Cal's Andrew Vaughn (first base), Clemson's Logan Davidson (shortstop), Baylor's Shea Langeliers (catcher), TCU's Nick Lodolo (left-handed pitcher), Texas Tech's Josh Jung (third base), Kentucky's Zach Thompson (left-handed pitcher) and Duke's Graeme Stinson (left-handed pitcher).
The list was compiled after several scouting directors and national crosscheckers provided feedback on players that participated in the Cape Cod League or for USA Baseball's CNT.
