LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The Rebel cross country team claimed the section title amongst NCAA Division I squads in its own UNLV Invitational Saturday at the Lake Las Vegas Sports Club. The Scarlet & Gray ran a total team time of 1:40:34 to defeat Fresno State (1:40:52) and UC Riverside (1:46:11) in the 5K race.
Agnes Mansaray, who finished fourth overall – second in the DI standings – with a time of 19:29.8, led UNLV on the course.
Elisa Rovere was the second Rebel to cross the line with a time of 19:44.5, which was good enough for eighth (third DI).
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete and
Emma Wahlenmaier were 11th (fourth DI) and 12th (fifth DI) with times of 20:04.4 and 20:20.2, respectively.
Kennedy Allen closed out the scoring for UNLV with a 22nd-place finish (11th D1) time of 20:56.3.
QUOTABLE: "It was a really good event out at the Lake Las Vegas Sports Club for the first time," said
Yvonne Wade. "It was a brutal course for the runners with some challenging hills and difficult surfaces to run, but this meet was about getting competitive in tough situations."
EXTENDED RACE RESULTS: Alaska-Anchorage (1:37.15 total team time), Dixie State (1:43:26) and Cerritos (1:46:11) also competed in the six-team meet. Alaska-Anchorage had the top-two finishers: Emmanuelah Chelimo (18:54.7) and Nancy Jeptoo (18:58.3). Fresno State's Ellie Leather won the DI individual title with a time of 18:54.7.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will have some time off before they participate in Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational on Oct. 13. The 6K race will take place in Sunnyvale, California, at Baylands Regional Park.
