Madeleine Laux and Gracie Olkowski will become Rebels starting in 2020-21.
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf program has received signed commitments from Madeleine Laux and Gracie Olkowski to join the Rebels, head coach Amy Bush-Herzer announced Saturday.
"We are so pleased to announce the signing of two extraordinary players to the UNLV women's golf team," Bush-Herzer said. "These young women represent the future of our program and we are looking forward to many successful and exciting years ahead."
Laux, from Goodyear, Arizona, attends Millennium High School. Her team has won four straight conference championships, while she has finished eighth, fifth, fourth and second in the state on an individual basis from 2016-19. Coached by Vicki Turrell, the Tigers have placed as high as third in the state with Laux on the team. She was named all-state all four years of high school and was her team's captain as a junior and senior.
A three-time member of the Girls Junior Americas Cup's Arizona team, where she placed ninth individually this year, she has also recorded 82 junior golf tournament victories. She is also a five-time participant at Junior Worlds and was the runner-up at the U.S. Teen World Championships in 2014. Her personal coach is Talmadge Tanks, who she has worked with since 2007.
"I am excited to welcome Maddie to our program," Bush-Herzer said. "She is an extremely talented golfer. Maddie's work ethic is second-to-none and I am sure she will make an immediate impact on our program."
Olkowski, from Las Vegas, Nevada, attends Faith Lutheran High School. She won the state's 4A individual title in 2018 and her team has won three district championships. She also was a district champion as a guard on the basketball team. She previously attended Grand Junction High School in Colorado.
"We are excited to welcome another local student-athlete to our roster," said Bush-Herzer. "Gracie is a natural athlete who has been successful playing multiple sports. She loves competition and has an amazing work ethic."
