Swimming & Diving Rebels finish 2019 Mountain West Conference Championships in ninth place overall.

Armijo Claims 2019 Mountain West Freshman of the Meet


MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UNLVRebels.com) -  UNLV wrapped up action at the 2019 Mountain West Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with a ninth-place finish at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The Rebels concluded the competition with 501.5 points, while San Diego State won the conference title with 1363.5 points. UNR placed second with 1261.5 points, and due to their higher finisher over the Rebels, the Wolf Pack earned three points in The Silver State Series presented by IBEW and Nevada Donor Network, the all-sports competition between the two schools.

REBELS OF THE DAY: 
-Freshman Carissa Armijo was named the 2019 Mountain West Freshman of the Meet and became the third-fastest time in program history in the 200 fly (2:01.86). She also posted top eight finishes in the 500 free (second place) and the 400 IM (sixth place). She is the first freshman from UNLV to in this award since Dana Penn in 1999.
-Freshman Filio Raftopoulou's time of 16:54.19 in the 1650 free, became the eighth-fastest time in program history.
-Freshman Kacey Kiuchi's time of 1:57.88 in the 200 back, became the fifth-fastest time in program history.

THE RUNDOWN - WOMEN: 
*Freshman Filio Raftopoulou finished 12th in the 1650 free with a time of 16:54.19, followed by sophomore Lauren Smith who finished 20th (17:15.64).
*Freshman Kacey Kiuchi touched the wall 11th in the 200 back with a swim of 1:57.88
*Freshman Julia Filippova finished 14th in the 100 free with a time of 50.63.
*Freshman Skylar Moore placed 22nd in the 200 breast with a 2:19.23.
*Freshman Carissa Armijo finished seventh in the 200 fly with a swim of 2:01.86. Freshman Gabby Lizzul followed behind in 17th (2:03.40).
*Closing out this year's championships with an eighth place showing in the 400 free relay with the team of Carissa Armijo, Julia Filippova, Caitlyn Schreiber, and Sydney Schuette (3:24.66).
