BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's
Destiny Smith-Barnett earned First Team All-America honors with her fourth-place finish in the 60m final Saturday at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Rebel senior ran a time of 7.19 in the event contested at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Saturday's accomplishment marked the second time that the native of Oakland, California, has garnered All-American recognition. Two years ago, she was a second team honoree after a 14th-place finish in the 60m at the national meet.
Moreover, Smith-Barnett is the first Rebel since Amanda Bingson in 2012 to claim first team status.

Yvonne Wade. "She is such an amazing talent and a great spirit, and she represented the Rebel family well."

NOTES:
- USC's Twanisha Terry claimed the 60m title with a time of 7.14, while Texas' Teahna Daniels (7.19) and Florida State's Ka'Tia Seymour (7.19) were second and third, respectively.
- Smith-Barnett was named a 2017 Second Team All-American in the 100m (outdoor) and was a member of a pair of Rebel 4x100m relay teams that garnered All-America honors in outdoor competition in 2017 (Second Team) and 2018 (Honorable Mention).
- Smith-Barnett won the 60m at the Mountain West Indoor Championships twice: 2015 and 2018.
- Smith-Barnett earned Mountain West All-Conference Team honors four times in the 60m.
- This was the third straight year that UNLV was represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships, as Smith-Barnett and teammate
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete earned Second Team USTFCCCA All-America honors in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
SWITCHING SEASONS: The UNLV track & field team will transition to the outdoor season following the conclusion of the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Rebels open the outdoor campaign at home on March 14-16 with the UNLV Invitational & Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis at Myron Partridge Stadium.
