Kim Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golf junior Justin Kim has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Kim, from Fullerton, California, led the Rebels into the NCAA Championship finals for the third straight year and 22nd time in program history as a team with his performance at the NCAA Regional in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, last week. The junior finished the tournament in eighth place individually at 7-under, but his final-round was what was so pivotal. He finished out the event with a 4-under 68 that included five birdies and a bogey on his last hole (No. 9). On the hole prior (No. 8, but his 17th of the day), he hit is drive behind a tree, then hit his second shot high over to clear the tree and made a 30-foot birdie putt. UNLV advanced by just one shot at 8-under with a fifth-place finish over sixth-place Florida State at 7-under.

Kim and the Rebels will compete in the national finals, which take place May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A total of 30 teams will contend for the national championship.
