For the fourth consecutive semester, UNLV Athletics has set records in the classroom as Spring 2019 grades were made official by campus this week.
Most notably, UNLV student-athletes achieved a record cumulative grade point average of 3.09 at the end of the semester, which tops the previous high of 3.05 set in Fall 2018. It marks the fourth straight semester of at least a 3.0 GPA, also a first for the department.
In addition, the collective semester GPA of 3.05 during Spring 2019 is the second-highest mark in department history, trailing only the 3.09 also posted in Fall 2018.
"We are truly proud of the performance by our student-athletes in earning a record-high cumulative GPA," UNLV Director of Athletics
Desiree Reed-Francois said. "Reaching a 3.0 for a fourth consecutive semester also shows the long-term commitment to student-athlete success from our UNLV Student-Athlete Academic Services department, along with our coaches and staff."
Other highlights include a program-record 3.42 semester GPA by the softball team and cumulative GPA records by football (2.83), women's basketball (3.12), cross country (3.55) and women's track and field (3.21).
UNLV saw 142 student-athletes earn Dean's List honors during Spring 2019, just four short of the record set in Fall 2018. To be featured on the Dean's List, students must achieve a semester GPA greater than 3.50 in at least 12 academic credits.
Additionally, 57.7% of UNLV student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 semester GPA during Spring 2019.
