Alyssa Getty, Cathy Liu and Veronica Joels named Scholar All-Americans for the 2018-19 academic year
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (UNLVRebels.com) - Three UNLV women's golf student-athletes were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced Monday. Now graduated senior Alyssa Getty along with rising junior Cathy Liu and soon-to-be sophomore Veronica Joels were one of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers around the country recognized with this prestigious honor. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have played in at least 50 percent of the team's tournaments during the 2018-19 academic year.
Getty and Liu became back-to-back award winners as each received a selection last year.
Getty, a four-year letterwinner for the Rebels and three-time Mountain West Champion, graduated in May with her degree in communications, finishing with a 3.56 grade-point average. Liu, who is entering her third year with the program, is a interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.51 grade-point-average, while Las Vegas native Joels finished her freshman campaign with a 3.73 grade-point-average in the hospitality management major.
The three selections are the most for the Rebels since they had three during the 2011-12 academic year (Charlotte Brooks, Bethany Calvo and Katerina Prorokova).
