Williams Named The Toyota Outstanding Rebel of the Week

Baseball sophomore earns weekly honors after helping UNLV to a 3-2 week.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball sophomore Edarian Williams was named the Toyota Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Williams, a native of Las Vegas, helped UNLV to a 3-2 week, capped off by a sweep of its three-game, nonconference series against St. John's. He hit .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles and two triples to register a .722 slugging percentage; added three walks for a .455 on-base percentage.

Williams also knocked in seven RBI and scored six runs for the Rebels. He had two multiple-hit games and two multiple-RBI games. He also had one hit and scored one run in the two-game, midweek series at No. 2 Texas Tech. Against St. John's, he had the game-winning hit/RBI in games two and three: a sac fly in the third inning in game two and a two-run triple in the first inning in game three. Williams went for a combined 5-or-7 with six RBI and four runs in games two and three vs. St. John's. He also hit .500 (6-for-12) with runners on base; .667 (4-for-6) with runners in scoring position; and 1.000 (3-for-3) with runners on third and less than two outs.
