WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's golf team wrapped up their season opener with Wednesday's final round at the Southwestern Invitational hosted by No. 14 Pepperdine at North Ranch Country Club (Par 72 - 7,017 yards).
A pair of Rebels landed among the individual top 40 for the three-day event, including freshman
Inigo Izuzquiza (+10) in a tie for 38th and sophomore
Aaron Jarvis (+11) in a tie for 40th. Jarvis climbed 14 spots on the leaderboard in the final round, posting the Scarlet & Gray's with an even-par 72 on the final 18.
One of four top-25 ranked teams competing in a 12-team field, No. 20 Texas cruised to the team title at 14-under, finishing ahead of runner-up Pepperdine at 1-under. Finishing behind them were No. 4 Arizona State (+4) in third, Oregon (+8) in fourth and Washington (+16) and UCLA (+16) tied for fifth. The Rebels placed 11th (+38).
Wake Forest's Michael Brennan won the individual trophy at 9-under with a one-shot advantage over the Longhorns' Keaton Vo (-8) in second. Following behind them were Texas' Jacob Sosa (-7) in third, ASU's Luke Potter (-5) in fourth and the Longhorns' Christian Maas (-4) and Oregon's Owen Avrit (-4) tied for fifth.
Also competing for the Scarlet & Gray, junior
Caden Fioroni (+12) tied for 42nd, senior
Yuki Moriyama (+13) tied for 47th and junior
Ben Sawaia (+14) finished 51st.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV resumes play in a couple of weeks when they head to Laihue, Kauai, Hawaii for the John Burns Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Hawaii Feb. 16-18 at Wailua Golf Course.
