LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball came up short to Arizona State, 6-2, Tuesday evening at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin.
The Scarlet & Gray dropped to 7-15, while the Sun Devils improved to 17-8.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and one run scored for the Rebels.
BACK AND FORTH: UNLV took the lead early in the game after scoring one run on a wild pitch from Josh Hansell in the bottom of the first inning. That score held until the top of the sixth inning when a two-run triple from Jacob Tobias and a sacrifice fly from Isaiah Jackson gave the Sun Devils a two-run lead. The Scarlet & Gray answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Austin Kryszczuk to bring them to within one.
TURNING POINT: With the score at 3-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, a two-run homer from Nu'u Contrades helped blow the game open.
Nolan Lebamoff (3-0) earned his third win of the season for Arizona State after throwing two innings of relief and not allowing a run or hit with three strikeouts.
Noah Carabajal (0-3) suffered his third loss of the season for UNLV after allowing three runs on three hits in five innings of work.
UP NEXT: UNLV will hit the road to Colorado Springs for a three-game Mountain West series against the Air Force Falcons set to begin Friday at 12 p.m. (PT).
