LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team (4-6, 0-2 MW) dropped the second game of the three-game, conference-opening series to the Aztecs (4-5, 2-0 MW) by a score of 28-8 Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Jacob Sharp went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored for the Rebels, including a 2-run homer.
TURNING POINT: SDSU took the lead early in the game after scoring five runs on four hits and one error, including a three-run homer from Tino Bethancourt in the top of the first inning. The Rebels answered back in the bottom of the frame after scoring two runs on two hits, including Sharp's 2 RBI homer. After the top of the fifth inning, the Aztecs held the lead 16-5, then went on to score seven runs on four hits in the top of the sixth frame to secure the lead 23-5.
Robert Brodell (2-1) earned his second win of the season after pitching 2.1 frames of relief and allowing only two runs on two hits.
Josh Sharman (2-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season after throwing 3.0 innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits with only one strikeout.
UP NEXT: UNLV will conclude the three-game, conference-opening series against SDSU Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
