NORMAN, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team (5-8) fell to the Oklahoma Sooners (8-5) by a score of 8-7 to close out the final game of the two-game series Wednesday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park on the campus of Oklahoma.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Rylan Charles went 3-for-4 at the plate with a three-run homer, a double and a single with two runs scored for the Rebels.
TURNING POINT: The game was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, when UNLV pulled ahead 6-1 thanks to a pair of RBI singles and a three-run homer from Charles in the top of the fourth inning. The Sooners answered back in the bottom of the fifth frame with a two-run single to bring them within three runs. By the end of the sixth inning, the score was tied 6-6 after OU scored three runs on two hits, including a two-run homer. The Sooners took a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth after scoring two runs on two hits before the Scarlet & Gray answered back in the top of the ninth with one run on two hits, but ultimately fell to OU 8-7.
Carter Campbell (2-1) earned his second win of the season after pitching one inning of relief and allowing only one run on two hits.
Aaron Weber (S,1) took his first save of the season after throwing one-third of an inning of relief not allowing a single run or hit with one strikeout.
Noah Mattera (0-2) suffered his second loss of the season after going two-thirds of an inning of relief and allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
UP NEXT: UNLV will head over to the Golden State for a three-game, non-conference series against Cal Poly beginning Friday with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
