SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team defeated San Diego State 4-1 in the series finale of a three-game Mountain West series Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Rebels improved to 17-25 and 8-13 in the MW, while the Aztecs dropped to 18-22 and 12-7 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Kade Higgins went 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and a season-high four RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED: UNLV jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning after Higgins's first two-run home run of the day. San Diego State answered back in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from TJ Fondtain. After seven scoreless innings, Higgins's second two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning provided the Rebels some breathing room.
Zack Simon (2-1) secured the win for UNLV after throwing six innings and only allowing one run on two hits.
Jack Sellinger (S,4) secured the save for the Scarlet & Gray after allowing only three hits in three innings of relief.
Jadon Bercovich (0-1) was saddled with the loss for SDSU after allowing two runs on one hit in 1.1 innings.
UP NEXT: UNLV will return to the friendly confines of Earl E. Wilson Stadium for a three-game Mountain West series against New Mexico scheduled to begin Friday, May 5 at 6:05 p.m.
