FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team fell to Fresno State 8-5 during the series finale Sunday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The Rebels dropped to 19-29 and 10-17 in the MW, while the Bulldogs improved to 27-24 and 16-14 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Paul Myro IV went 1-for-3 at the plate with his fifth home run of the year and two runs scored.
BACK AND FORTH: The score was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the third inning before a two-run double from Tommy Hopfe put Fresno State on top. The Rebels answered back in the top of the fourth with Myro's solo home run before scoring another run in the top of the fifth to tie it up at four runs each. The Bulldogs brought in a run in the bottom of the fifth to put them back up by a run, only for a sacrifice fly from Santino Panaro in the top of the seventh to tie it back up. A solo home run from Hopfe in the bottom of the frame followed by a two-run single from Murf Gray in the bottom of the eighth put Fresno State up for good.
Victor Arreola (2-2) secured the win for Fresno State after throwing two innings of relief and allowing only one run on two hits.
Hopfe (S,10) earned the save after throwing one inning of relief and allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.
Noah Carabajal (1-8) was saddled with the loss for UNLV after allowing three runs on two hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
NOTES AND NEWS
- The Bulldogs completed a regular-season series sweep over the Rebels and improved the all-time series record to 69-46.
