SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – After a quick schedule change from their game on Tuesday, the UNLV baseball team (9-7) took the field once more before returning back to Las Vegas to play Cal Poly (8-8). The Rebels couldn't stop the Mustangs' offense, falling in the Wednesday-night game on a final score of 19-7.
Kade Higgins led the team in hits during the road contest, tallying three in his four at bats on the night. In his hit in the fourth inning, he'd eventually round all the bases to score off of a single through the left-field side by
Chase Ditmar. Ditmar's two RBIs on the play tied the most in the statistical category for the team,
Santino Panaro picking up two of his own with a single to center field in the top of the seventh inning.
The other two members of the Scarlet & Gray that earned RBIs in the game belonged to
Austin Kryszczuk and
Parker Schmidt, Kryszczuk's score marking as the first of the game for the team in the top of the fourth inning. Schmidt found one through a clean-hit ball near the shortstop, reaching on a fielder's choice that drove in
Isaac Rodriguez in the top of the fifth inning.
The Rebels were able to showcase a handful of strong pitching from their bullpen in the contest;
Pierce Kingston,
Dylan Rogers and
Carson Lane all taking the mound for one inning and producing two strikeouts during their stretch. Kingston came in during the bottom of the fourth and picked up his looking and swinging, Lane putting both down swinging in the bottom of the seventh and Rogers putting the first two batters he faced swinging in the bottom of the sixth.
The Scarlet & Gray will look to start the weekend anew with a three-game series against Santa Clara this upcoming weekend, facing off against the Broncos starting Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17. The two programs will play a game each day, the first one on Friday with a first-pitch of 6:05 p.m. PT.
