Baseball Run Rules Saint Mary’s To Cap Series

LAS VEGAS (UNLVrebels.com) – After winning in thrilling fashion the night before, the UNLV baseball team (12-8) rounded out their two-game series with Saint Mary's College (10-8) on Wednesday afternoon. The Hustlin' Rebels ignited their offense for another double-digit win on the season, ending the game in seven innings on a final score of 12-2.

Isaac Rodriguez picked up his second four-or-more RBI game of the season in the team's latest win, both of his hits in the contest being two-RBI doubles to lead the team with four in the game. After the Gaels picked up the early lead in the first inning, Rodriguez's double through the left side of the field drove home JP Hefft and Rylan Charles to claim the lead in the bottom of the third inning. The scoring wouldn't stop there though, Austin Kryszczuk registering an RBI double of his own in the same spot to add an insurance run to the Hustlin' Rebels' total.

Totaling three hits in his five at bats, Charles was able to pick up a season-high in RBIs as the team's leadoff hitter with three in the contest and two runs to his name. The senior blasted his second triple of the season to bring two runners home in Chase Gallegos and Brendan O'Sullivan in the bottom of the fourth, later securing the run-ruling hit with his single through the shortstop to hoist Parker Schmidt home in the sixth.

The Scarlet & Gray tallied their second-straight game of double-digit hit totals in the Wednesday win, the team finding five different student-athletes with multiple hits on their way to 14 as a team. Kade Higgins was one of the five to earn that mark in the game, also picking up two RBIs of his own with a single to right field in the fourth and a double to left field in the fifth. The junior also tallied his first-career stolen base in the Rebel uniform in the bottom of the fourth, sneaking past the defenders right after his single.

Although UNLV's offense highlighted the contest, the Rebel pitching staff also produced an impressive performance on the mound. Carson Lane earned the first start of his young career, producing a career-high four innings in the 20 batters he faced. Freshman Dylan Rogers would eventually be credited with the win in his two-inning appearance, only allowing one hit in the eight batters faced in the contest for his first decision of the season. Reese Lueck came in to close the top of the seventh inning and delivered a performance just as impressive, allowing one hit as well in four batters to keep the Gaels from scoring.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kryszczuk's RBI in his two at bats on Wednesday tallied the fifth-straight game the graduate student has registered at least one, picking up one in all but four games so far this season.
- The Rebels' 12 runs against St. Mary's marks the seventh time this season they've totaled double-digit scores in a game as well as the eighth-consecutive contest of five or more runs in a game.
- UNLV continues their streak of 174-straight games without being shut out, dating back to the 2020 season.

UP NEXT
