RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVrebels.com) – After claiming the series win over San Diego State, the UNLV baseball team (19-17) took on one more road contest on Monday in California before returning to Las Vegas. The Rebels would struggle offensively against California Baptist (24-13), falling on a final score of 6-2.
The Scarlet & Gray amassed six hits overall in the contest, the highlight being
Alex Pimentel's single in the top of the seventh inning. His hit to left field would break the scoring drought that the Rebels had in the previous seven innings, scoring
Chase Ditmar from third base and
Rylan Charles on second. UNLV pressured CBU in a handful of other innings, placing runners in scoring position during the top of the second, third, fifth and ninth inning. The Rebels left nine batters on base overall in the contest.
The Rebels' leaders included Charles, the only batter in the lineup to record multiple base hits in the contest. His two hits would stem from the bottom of the fifth and the aforementioned seventh innings, his hit in the fifth being an infield single straight back to the pitcher on a 1-0 count. Other members of the lineup that recorded a hit were Hefft, Pimentel,
Austin Kryszczuk and Ditmar.
UNLV recorded a handful of free trips to first base as well in the contest, tallying three walks and three batters hit by pitch. Members who earned an easy jog to first base include Hefft, O'Sullivan, Ditmar and
Chase Gallegos.
The program featured some strong performances on the mound despite the loss,
Blaze Hill recording a shutout 1.1 innings of relief that took 10 pitches to record outs on all four batters he faced.
Pierce Kingston also stepped in as relief in the game and saw a good run, pitching the final inning for the Rebels and only allowing one hit in the contest.
